Design George Nelson, 1958
brass, aluminum
The Nelson clocks were first born from a festive evening of collaboration.... George Nelson recalls: 'And there was one night when the ball clock got developed... Noguchi came by, and Bucky Fuller came by... we started making doodles. Then Bucky sort of brushed Noguchi aside. He said, 'This is a good way to do a clock,' and he made some utterly absurd thing. Everybody was taking a crack at it, pushing each other aside and making scribbles.... and the next morning there was this roll of drafting paper and somewhere in this roll there was the ball clock."
George Nelson Turbine clock, originally available back in 1957 and now back in production by Kirch & Co.. The name is obviously no coincidence, with that 'turbine' look a real eye-catcher. There's also an Aluminum centre and some distinctly individual hands, with the clock powered by high-grade quartz workings. Powered by a single battery. Using original models but using different material aluminum. Not only the dimensions of the clock and its hands but also the way it has been constructed, finish and color are true to Nelson original designs.
